    The Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was a speech that Truman gave saying that the U.S. should do whatever they could to stop the spread of communism and the S.U. He requested sending $400 mil. in political, economic, and military assistance to Turkey and Greece specifically, which was approved by congress two months later. With the Doctrine being continued by Reagan when he became president and additions from him the Cold War was ended. The Truman Doctrine initally made the S.U. angry and caused some tension.

    The Soviet Union created a bomb that they called "First Lightening" which was as explosive as the U.S.'s "Trinity", one of the U.S.'s people who helped them build one of our bombs, helped the S.U. One of the U.S.'s spy planes picked up radio activity evidence from the explosion. During the Cold War the bomb programs were growing and accelerating. The soviets were focusing on bigger, more powerful bombs that were less acurate, while the U.S. was focusing on smaller more effective nuclear weapons.

    The Korean was was the first military action of the cold war. The World War II divided Korea into two parts, the North, which was communist, and the South, which was non-communist, which arose the war and caused tension. The Cold War developed imediately following the Korean War. The Korean War caused tension because no one won and there was still a fight between Communist and non communist; there was also a fear of the domino effect.

    The Berlin Wall was built between the east and the west with barbed wire and concrete which kept people from freely leaving East Berlin. East Berlin and the Soviet Union wanted to keep the communist from leaving, and they did so by the wall and guards who shot anyone who attempted to leave. The Berlin wall was built during the Cold war to separate the two different ideas. Separating the two ideas was a comprimise to fighting for communism, the separation kept the fighting down.

    The leaders of the United States and the Soviet Union engaged in a direct and dangerous confrontation and had a tense political and military stand off. The whole world was worried that the world would have a nuclear bomb war, but the war was avoided by the U.S and the S.U. agreeing to remove missiles. This event was the closest the U.S. and S.U. ever came to a nuclear war during the Cold war.

    When Israel became independant, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria attacked Israel and the US helped Syria out, and within 6 days the cease fire agreement was signed. Israel also gained land from Jordan, Egypt, and Syria in the end. The Soviet Union took the Arabia side, while the US took the Israel side. There was tension because of the Cold War going on and the U.S. and the S.U. were already arguing; it was a fight for their side to win.

    The US and the SU was competing in the Space Race, althought the SU.\ beat the US with launching a satelite, the US beat them with the first man on the moon. Although it was a race the US and the SU had to make sure they were safe and didn't not succeed in what they were trying to do. The space race happened during the Cold War and was considered part of it. The competition of the technology was an aspect the US and the SU were fighting about to make themselves more powerful to spread their ways
