Iron Curtain Speech
The Iron Curtain became a symbol in the West for the cold war. It symbolized the growing fear of comunissm. The Iron Curtain divided Europe into eastern Europe, and Western Europe. In the East was dominated by Soviet, and communism countries. In Western Europe, western democracies dominated the land. -
Truman Doctrine
It was a new policy that was to limit the idea of communism to the area already under Soviet control. It was a guide for the United States. It made it clear that Americans would resist Soviet expansion. -
Berlin Airlift
This was the response to the blockade caused by the USSR. The nations got tougghter and organized an airlift to bring supplies to the people. -
Formation Of NATO
The formation of the NATO included Untied States, Canada, and nine Western European countries. They formed the NATO to have a new military alliance called North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO). The Members pledged to help one another if any one of them was attacked. -
Korean War
Japan decided to invade China. When they did the Japanese forced the Koreans to work in labor camps. They supplied they Japanese with war goods. But they end of the World War 2 , million had been forced into labor camps. -
Cuban Revolution
It was an armed revolt conducted by Fido Castro against the cuban goverment and the president Fulgencio Batista. Castro turned the country into a revoluntionary socialist state. Castro made the country a communist country. -
Vietnam War begins
It was a largely fought a guerrilla war against anti-communist forces in the region.This war followed the First Indochina War and was fought between North Vietnam supported by China and other communist allies and the government of South Vietnam supported by the United States and other anti-communist countries. -
Sputnik 1
Sputnik 1 is what began the space age. The Soviet union shocked the world by puting the first human made object into space. The word sputnik origionally meant "fellow travler" in russiun. it has become synomynous with the word sattilite in russiun now though. -
Bay of Pigs
Cuba turned to the Soviet Union for aid, which alarmed the United States. A US invasion force landed at the Bay Of Pigs in order to overthrow Castro, but got crushed. The United States in return put an embargo on the country of Cuba. -
Berlin Wall Goes Up
The Great Berlin Wall was a giant wall the completley seperated West Berlin from the surrounding East Germany, and East Berlin. It was a symbol and a berier for West berlin. they used it to help seperate them from communism. The wall was also used to keep the people of East Germany in and not fleeing. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Raul Castro, the brother of Fidel made a trip to Moscow. Shortly afterwards, the Soviet Union began to send weapons and military personnel to Cuba. -
Vietnam War Ends
The end of the war was the coming home part. The United States Govt viewed the war as a way to prevent a communist takeover of S.Vietnam and part of the strategy of containment. -
Solidarity is formed in Poland
It was a new independent labor union. Solidarity gave a rise to broad, non-violent, anti-communist social movement.This had a great contributed to the fall of communism. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The fall of the Berlin Wall represented the beginning of the end of the Cold War. There was peace that was starting to spread. The people in East Germany celebrated when the Berlin Wall went down, because they were finally free. -
Dissolution of the USSR
The Powerfull Soviet Union dissolved and turned back into the country of Russia. The USSR dissolved into 15 separate countries. Gorbachev resigned from his position as president. Guns and Butter was a big reason for the fall of the Soviet Union.
