Cold War Timeline

  • the Yalta conference

    the Yalta conference was a meet up of Stalin and the communist leaders to decide how to divide Germany. they agreed to divide it into four different occupation zones.
  • Berlin blockade

    The Blockade was an effort of the Soviet Union in order to prevent trade in Europe. This cause tension, however U.S. adapted air trade in order to get goods across.
  • the Korean war

    After WWII the Soviet Union tried to spread their communist beliefs across Europe and Korea. U.S. trying to counter the spread of communism made an alliance with south Korea but north Korea adopted communism.this cause war to erupt between south and north Korea.
  • space race

    as tension grew between the Soviets and America, everything became a race. This particular race was the race to space. The soviets had a head start on U.S. and for once seemed above U.S. and U.S. didn't like it however they eventually agreed on international space stations.
  • Fidel Castro takes control

    Fidel Castro comes to power in Cuba and adapts communism to the country. Fidel had taken power by force and had exiled the previous leader of Cuba.
  • US Spy Plane

    in May 1,1960 a US surveillance plane got hit out of the sky by the soviet union when they were trying to gather Intel. At first US denied that that was their plane but it became very obvious and they were forced to confess.
  • bay of pigs

    US tried to invade Cuba in 1961 as a part of a CIA operation that went wrong. they were defeated by Castro's forces and gained respect of his leadership.
  • Missile crisis

    after US transferred nuclear weapons to Cuba the soviet union got aggressive and demanded us dismantled the nuclear weapons.This was the closest the US and the Soviet Union got to nuclear war.
  • The Berlin was is taken down

    After the citizens had had enough and stated to revolt they had one goal in mind. their goal was to unite Berlin again and had finally united Berlin.
  • the Cold War ends

    NATO had no longer any fear of nuclear war because The Soviet Union had finally fallen. This was the long awaited end of the cold war.
