  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    The Potsdam conference was between Germany and the Allied Nations after the events of World War II. The purpose of this conference was to discuss peace settlements for Europe and reconstruct the democratic system of Germany. During the Conference the United States told the Soviet Union if there plan to use their new weapon the Atom Bomb against Japan. Because of the allies self interest with their own countries they grew concerned about the spread of communism, this was the last allied meeting
  • North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO)

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO)
    NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Association was founded on April 4 1949. The purpose of NATO was to advocate military spending and create a plan to counter the Soviet Union. NATO impacted most of Western Europe with many founding countries being the United States, Canada United Kingdom,etc. After NATO was founded it impacted many western European Countries and would grow larger over the years. During the Cold War NATO created an integrated military force in Europe with nukes for defense.

    When south Korea pushed further north into North Korea China whose Government was Communist decided to step in and give support to North Korea by sending in troops.The aftermath of the war neither of the sides gained or lost much territory Inn at the end of the war both sides had significant losses

    The Korean War started on june 25 1950 with the invasion of of North Korea over the 38t parallel
    Which caused the United Nations to call for a ceasefire and for the North Korean troops to leave the country. After the North Koreans the UN Security council urged for other countries to assist South Korea in pushing back the North Koreans. After the Invasion of South Korea the United states and various other countries sent troops to help, But most of the U.S. troops were pushed back.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The warsaw pact was signed on May 15 1955 and was the counterpart of NATO. The warsaw pact was made up of the countries of eastern Europe and was to counteract the countries apart of NATO. The soviet Union wanted to create a strong defensive alliance against any potential military or economic threats from the west ( Warsaw Pact ).

    The Suez Crises provoked by the U.S and UK not financing the construction of the Aswan high dam in Egypt, In retaliation the President of Egypt Gamal Nasser declared martial law in the canal zone and collecting tolls for ships that passed thru. After diplomatic conferences failed the UK and France secretly gathered up military powers to seize control over the canal or if possible eliminate Nasser
  • Vietnam War

    In 1957 communist rebels in south vietnam began fighting the government and were called the viet kong. The viet kong were then supported by North vietnam and trained them to be communist fighters against the south. In 1968 the U.S sent 500,000 troops to South Vietnam in response to the outbreak of the civil war. After the landing of U.S troops the Viet kong launched an attack a major offensive on the holiday of tet which left the U.S with heavy losses and later withdrew their remaining forces
  • Sputnik

    On October 4th 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first satellite into space called Sputnik. After the successful launch by the Soviet Union the Presidents of the United States Dwight Eisenhower tried to downplay the importance of this technological advance. Because of this the American people panicked and started funding the Space Program in order to beat the Soviets to space.

    in December of 1957 The United States attempted to launch its first artificial satellite named Vanguard but the attempt was a failure. Later on January 31st 1958 the United States was successful in the launch of the first satellite Explorer. Because of the success of the Sputnik satellite the United States fear that they had fell behind the Soviet Union and had to accelerate the space program and weapons programs
  • Cuban missile crises

    When Fidel Castro came to power on the island of Cuba in 1959 and allied himself with the Soviet Union for military and economic aid. Because of this alliance the united states started reconnaissance flights over cuba and discovered missile silos on October 14 1962. With the fear of missiles being close to the United States tensions grew higher as the U.S was worried of not being able to defend themselves against the missiles.
