    Stalin was running the communist party in the Soviet Union during the cold war. Because of Stalin wanting to be in control of eastern Europe, the American's opinion of him declined. Because of this, Stalin may have started a feud with the US.

    Ho Chi Minh's time in government

    Minh was president of the democratic republic in north Vietnam. He supported communism to gain allies in China and the Soviet Union. He helped the democratic republic start in north Vietnam.

    Truman's time in office

    The cold war started while he was in office. The policy of containment set up an immediate conflict because it wasn't fighting against communism.

    Hiroshima
    People in other parts of the world were surprised by the impact. This lead to a lack of trust between the Soviet Union and the US because we didn't give warning about dropping the bomb on Hiroshima. We also weren't willing to share the new technology with allies. However this and the bomb dropped on Nagasaki lead to the Japanese surrendering unconditionally.

    The war officially ended. This was the day that the Japanese surrendered to the allies. This ended the alliance with the Soviet Union. This happened in a short amount of time that General Patton wanted to take the remainder of the Nazi soldiers and invade the Soviet Union. This may have also caused a lack of trust with the Soviets and the US.

    Communist Revolution in China
    Contributed to the idea that communism was monolithic. This lead to the idea that if no one tried to contain communism it would continue to spread. This also strongly reinforced the fear of communism in the US.

    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The NATO treaty contained Article 15. This said that if anyone attacked any nation in NATO, everyone else would attack the original attacker. This was made to try to keep the Soviet Union from taking over anymore territory after WWII ended. NATO originally contained Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

    This was a major event. This lead to even less trust between the Soviets and the US. They were also the first none NATO country to develop nuclear weapons. This sparked a conflict between the two major nations.

    This war started when Northern Korea (above the 38th parallel) became communist. The first time that the UN was able to intervene in a war early. The Soviets got angry in the security counsel debate and walked out of the meeting. After they left the security counsel decided to intervene in the Korean war. When we invaded and drove the north Koreans back to north Korea we almost took over north Korea but made the mistake of crossing through china which made them join the war on the north's side.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a large event in the Cold War. This would have started World War 3.

    This was the closest the US ever cam to going into nuclear war with the Soviet Union. This was during the cold war. The Soviets set up missiles in Cuba. JFK demanded that they remove them and the Soviets refused. It got to the point where a Soviet captain was ordered to fire a nuclear torpedo at the US and refused to.

    This was the first time that the Soviet Union actually used the weapons they had access to. This lead to a rise in tension between the United States and the Soviets. When the Soviets would use new weaponry and would develop new weapons, the US would retaliate. This war was an ongoing place of tension.

    The main thing that happened on this day is that they figuratively and literally brought down the divide in Europe. Literally because they brought down the Berlin wall. Figuratively because it made a fresh canvas for a new government. This was a big day in European history.
