United Nations Formation
After World War 2 nations wanted peace after a brutal war so they came together at an international conference in San Francisco, California. The nations wanted to not only restore peace but also maintain human rights and continue to have international peace. -
Truman Doctrine
President Harry Truman asked Congress for $400 million to give military and economic assistance for Greece and Turkey. Also he feared that the nations would fall under communist rule which would be bad because it would spread through the Mediterranean. -
"Hollywood 10"
The Hollywood Ten was a group of 10 authors, editors, screenwriters, and directors that were in the communist party which was at the time not allowed because it showed that a person could be the enemy and against America. -
The Marshall Plan
President Harry Truman signed the Economic Recovery Act which was also known as the Marshall Plan to help provide economic assistance to Europe after World War 2. -
NATO Formation
Created by about 12 countries from Europe and North America. The use of NATO was to help create security and protection against the Soviet Union because NATO was the first peaceful military alliance. -
Korean War
The Korean War would last until the 27th of July during the year of 1953. The War started when North Korea invaded South Korea because North Korea wanted to conquer South Korea. The United States was alongside South Korea whereas North Korea had the Soviet Union as their allies. -
Sputnik/space race
The first artificial satellite that was launched by the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union and the United States were fighting to get an artificial satellite in the atmosphere, but the Soviet Union was first to accomplish this task. -
Bay of Pigs
The bay of pigs lasted for two days. It was a failed attack that was launched by the CIA during the Kennedy administration to try and push the Cuban leader Fidel Castro from power. They were not successful in their success. -
Berlin Wall goes up
The Wall was built by the Germans during the Cold War to try and prevent their population from escaping Soviet-controlled East Berlin to West Berlin. Basically a wall that separated from the Soviet union and the Western allies. -
U.S. Official Enters Vietnam War
President Lyndon B. Johnson wanted the U.S. to enter the Vietnam War to help interfere with the possibility of communism in Vietnam. They did not want communism to spread to South Vietnam and the rest of Asia. The U.S. send money, military advisors, and supplies to help with the war efforts. -
Soviet Union invades Afghanistan
The Soviet Union wanted to overthrow the current Afghanistan leader which they did and killed Hafizullah Amin. This lasted until the late 1980's when the Soviets withdrew their people and the Afghanistan returned to having a nonaligned status. -
Berlin Wall Comes Down
The wall was brought down because it was a barrier down the two sides of Germany when it wasn't needed anymore and the Soviet Union was not together as much anymore.
