    Ferdinand Magellan began sailing sailing from Spain in 1519 with five small ships. He sails completely around the world. He didn't make the whole trip, but his crew did. Ferdinand Magellan died during a battle in the Philippines.

    Many of the Carolina settlers had emigrated frim Barbados. Carolina had ties with the flourishing sugar islands of the English West Indies. All the Indians that previously called the Carolina's home were shipped out to work in sugar mills.
