    He commanded 17 ships with 1,500 soldiers, settlers, and preists. Discovered other islands including Puerto Rico. The men he left on Hispaniola had been killed by the Indians

    Juan Ponce de Leon sailed north from Puerto Rico

    Landed in Florida but called it La Florida. He was the first Spaniard to set foot in the United States.

    Cortez sailed from Cuba to Mexico.

    He brought more then 500 soldiers with him. The Native Americans that first met him presented him with gifts of gold

    Cortez marched into the Aztec capital city of Tenochtitlan.

    Many Native Americans joined Cortez because they hated the Aztec brutal rule, since they were captured.

    He tried to get Cortez to leave by offering him gold. Cortez took the gold, and Moctezuma hostage. The Aztecs soon rebelled.

    400 spaniards landed near the present day city of St. Petersburg

    They found no gold, marched to northern Florida, and got attacked by Native Americans. They built 5 crude boats and 80 survivors were led to Galveston Island by Alvar Nunez Cabeza.

    He was in search of the Inca because they were siad to have much gold.

    Pizarro led 170 soldiers through the jungle into the heart of the Inca Empire.

    Spanish had defeated the leaderless Incas and captured the city of Cuzco

    Pizzaro executed Atahualpa.

    It was established by a group of wealthy people form England. King James I backed the project that the Virginia Company of London proposed. The proposal was that the group of people would go over and settle.
