Hernando de Soto's expedition of the Southeast
Arrived in the West Indies to make a fortune in the Central American slave trade. He embarked on a major expedition in 1538 to conquer Florida. 1541, de Soto and his men became the first Europeans to encounter the great Mississippi River and cross it. -

French began fur trade with Indians
The first to purchase furs from the Indians were French and English fishermen. During the 1500s, they fished off the coast of northeastern Canada and occasionally traded with Indians. -

Coronado's expedition from Mexico to Kansas
He had heard tales of the large and wealthy Seven Cities of Cibola to the north. The large expedition they formed had nearly 300 well-armed horsemen and foot soldiers. -

He couldn't travel up the river all the way to Asia, he had in fact discovered an important waterway into the vast areas of Canada. -

Pedro Menéndez de Avilés landed on shore of what is now called Matanzas Bay and began the founding of the Presidio of San Agustin. -

John Rolfe introduced tobacco to Virginia
He began his experiments with planting tobacco in 1612. The native tobacco of Virginia was of little commercial interest to the Virginia Company as the tobacco was so harsh for European taste. -
Attempted Roanoke Colony
Two years from the first attempt in 1587, John White led up to 118 colonists to Roanoke. He had an idea to get people to go to Roanoke Island. This was basically to attract settlers who brought their families with them and for them to invest the colony. Each and every settler would recieve 500 acres of land and some view in the government of the colony. In the Spring of 1587, they set sail. And when they got there they began to repair old houses and the old forts. -
Juan de Onate founded Santa Fe
He claimed all of the territory across the river crossing to the north for the Spanish Empire. -
Jamestown, Virginia founded
104 English men and boys arrived in North America to start a settlement. And on May 13th they picked Jamestown, Virginia for their settlement, and was named after their King, James I. This settlement became the very first permanent English settlement in North America. -
Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec
He arrived in Tadoussac on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River only to discover that somebody had tried to impose the trade. He managed to negotiate a truce with the other traders and Dupont- Gravé agreed to share the trade. -
First African slaves arrived in Virginia
In 1619 a Dutch manof-war with around 20 Africans on board entered port at the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia. The first Africans set foot on the North American continent. Around this time, the slave trade between Africa and English colonies had not yet been established. -
Plymouth, Massachusetts founded
In September, 1620 a group of 101 colonists left England for the Virginia Colony. About half of these colonists were Separatists. They had seperated from the King's Church, the Church of England. On December 21, 1620, the Pilgrims began a new colony in what is today known as the Town of Plymouth. -
South Carolina colony founded
It was founded in 1633 by eight English nobles with a Royal Charter from King Charles II. The South Carolina Colony was classified as one of the Southern Colonies. -

Beaver Wars
The French and Iroquois Wars, were terrifying and brutal wars fought by tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy. This happened between the French and the Indian tribes who were their allies. The Beaver Wars were located in Great Lakes area. The result of Beaver Wars was 1701 Grande Paix (Great Peace) Treaty. -
Marquette and Joliet sailed down the Mississippi
Those two and five others paddled across Lake Michigan to present-day Green Bay, Wisconsin, and then up the Fox River to what is now Portage, Wisconsin. Marquette and Joliet led their party down the Mississippi to the mouth of the Arkansas River. Indians with guns showed up with guns out of no where. The Marquette-Joliet expedition proved that the Mississippi River flowed into the Gulf of Mexico, and were the first white men to enter what is now Illinois. -

The Pueblo Revolt
Was an uprising of most of the indigenous Pueblo people against the Spanish colonizers. Pueblo Revolt killed 400 Spanish and drove the remaining 2,000 settlers out of the province. -

Pennsylvania Colony founded
The Pennsylvania Colony was classified as one of the Middle Colonies. The Province of Pennsylvania was an English colony in North America that exsisted from 1682 until 1776, when it joined the other 12 out of the 13 colonies. -
Georgia Colony founded
In 1732, King George II, under the persuassion of Oglethorpe he signed off on the last of the 13 colonies.
