The Columbine High School was opened in 1973 with a capacity for 1,652 students. It was named after the surrounding community of Columbine, which in turn was named after the state flower of Colorado: the columbine. -

Since it first opened, the school was under significant renovations, the must important was on 1995 with the addition of a Cafeteria and a Library -

After the Massacre
After the massacre, the school was closed and renovated with other cafeteria and library, After the shootings, Columbine completely demolished its library, located above the cafeteria, since it was the site where the majority of the deaths occurred. The site was then turned into a memorial ceiling and atrium; a new, larger library was built on the hill where the shooting began and dedicated to the memory of the victims. -

"Columbiners"
Dylan and Eric have become cult figures, some people even idolize them. The boys have become unlikely heroes, especially for teenagers who feel alienated and angry with the world. They are seen by their fans as heroic avengers who stood up for themselves. With the rise in online social media platforms, there is a growing fandom for the boys on sites such as Tumblr. These people call themselves "Columbiners" and they create fan art and fan fiction related to the shooters -
Massacre
The school was the site of one of the deadliest mass shootings on the U.S.A and society history. This happened when the students: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to killed 12 students and one teacher, wounded 24 victims and killed themselves. With homemade bombs and a plan to explote the cafeteria, their plan was down when that bombs wasn't connected correctly.
In case of that bombs exploded the number of the victims would have increased to a 30% more than the actual victims. -
Columbine Legacy? 1/2
This incident was the first, but sadly not the last Columbine related copycat crime. In this case, the shooter was a 14-year-old boy named Todd Cameron Smith, who opened fire on his classmates, killing one and wounding another, this happened in the Myers High School -
Elephant, the first movie of the massacre
Widely criticized and censored for the alleged possibility of it inspiring similar facts, the Elephant film by Gus Van Sant portrays the intertwined stories of young people whose lifes are stopped by the massacre. -
Memorial dedicated to the victims in Clement Park
Eight years after the shootings took place, a permanent memorial was dedicated to the victims. The memorial is located in Clement Park – a meadow across from the school where impromptu memorials were held in the days after the attack. The memorial was built using donated funds. -
Columbine Legacy? 2/2
Seung-Hui Cho, now known as the infamous Virginia Tech Shooter, was in the eighth grade when the Columbine massacre took place. Classmates reported that he was transfixed by the media coverage of the attack and he even wrote an assignment about wanting to “repeat Columbine”. Armed with two semi-automatic weapons, Cho killed 32 people and wounded 17 others. -
Tourist Attraction
the school remained a "macabre tourist attraction" for those fascinated by the massacre, with hundreds stopped annually caught trespassing on the grounds or trying to enter the buildings. In June 2019, the superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools proposed tearing down the school and rebuilding it more securely to lessen its "morbid fascination"
