The Sangathan and Shuddi Movements
- This was a period of unrest and disturbances among the Hindus and the Muslims, the two communal parties of India.
- Radical communal parties such as the Sangatham and Shuddi started to cause communal riots. Their objective was to convert all Muslims into Hindus, and they started their work from the poorest and most backward of Muslims.
- The Congress had achieved a mass following of more than two million people, mostly Hindus.
