    The Start of the Great War
    On June 28, 1914 a Serbian man assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand because he was going to be the heir of the throne. Which made a huge conflict between those two countries. The war started in Europe on 1914. War was declared on Serbia, so countries started forming alliances. Everybody had alliances just in case a a war happened so their empires would choose sides. Central powers Austria: Germany, Bulgaria, Ottoman Empire, Turkey Allied Powers Serbia: France, Russia, Belgium, Great Britain

    The Western Front

    Most of the fighting took place in France, and most of the fighting was done by France and Germany, because they had already had a conflict before the war. Germany marched on Paris but was stopped by the french, so they dug a trench, which is how the Battle of the Marne happened. Germany was very powerful in this war. Gradually the trenches extended to protect their countries. In the western part everyone started building trenches to defend themselves, and it became a bloody fight.

    The Eastern Front

    This was one of the bloodiest and most dangerous battles in WW1. Russia, Austria, and Germany were involved in the eastern front. This war was very profound to our future because what happened in this battle became really important in the 20th century. Since it was one of the bloodiest battles many soldiers died, about 3 million and more than 9 million were wounded. In the middle of this war Russia had failed so catastrophically that they had to drop out of the war. This was a life changing war.

    End of War
    Germany put a white flag meaning they wanted to stop because US was so strong, and so were France's allies. All the countries forced Germany to admit that is was their fault so they had to pay for what they did. The victorious allies wanted a treaty after the war to prevents another war. Germany wasn’t invited in this treaty. They all wanted revenge and payment for what they had suffered for in this war. Empires went down and they lost land and new land was made. Germany was not happy.
  • The League of Nations

    The League of Nations
    American President Woodrow Wilson proposed after the war to have all the nations come together and have solutions for conflicts of the world. 42 nations were in this group, although US did not join. They had sanctions for countries, they were two different types. Economic sanctions is just a barrier of trade, so they couldn’t trade with other countries. Then physical sanctions involved military force, so it was just an ending threat to follow the rules that were given. Things changed after war.
