    The British after losing an exsessive amount of money they taxed the colonists in order to re cover the lost money. The colonists however refused to pay the levy taxes. They said they didnt have to pay for something they didnt have representation in. Later on as they were taxed on tea three tea ships were violated and all their tea was dumped into the ocean.

    The intolerable acts which was passed by the british parliament was made to punish the colonies for certain actions for example the boston tea party. The colonists took action and boycotted and drafted a declaration to the king and parliament of britian. This is what is called the declaration of rghts and grieviances.

    The first week of the meet was mainly discussing and debating. There was a high amount of independence between the colonies and the trust between them lacked. The first plan they had in mind however was a plan of a union of britian and the u.s. colonies.

    The revolution began for the freedom of the colonies in the u.s. and independence. It was a very complex war for the colonies in the begenning but when they recieved aid from france, the tables began to turn on great britian.
  • 2nd continental congress meets

    Congress met at the State House in Philadelphia. There were several new delegates including: John Hancock from Massachusetts, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, and Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania. They made the militia as well as the continental army in which George washington was elected chief of the continental army.

    The purpose of the declaration of independence was to declare independence and sovereignty. To form a friendship for there defense and liberties. To assist eachother against threats or attacks made against them.

    The Articles of Confederations was written during the revolutionary war for control of the western lands, for equal representations of states and for the power of levy taxes. The small states wanted equal representation with the larger states. However the large states were afraid of paying more money to support the federal government. To much independence was given leading to many weaknessess in the Articles.

    The Revolutionary War finally ended only when the treaty of peace was signed by the British in Paris in 1783. It technically lasted for five years. The battle of Saratoga was the huge turning point with the help of the french they made the british retreat and fall back and surrender.

    By 1786, it was apparent that the Union would soon break up if the Articles of Confederation were not amended or replaced. Five states met in Annapolis, Maryland, to discuss the issue, and all the states were invited to send delegates to a new constitutional convention to be held in Philadelphia. On may 25 1787 the delegates for every state held a meeting for the first convention.

    Two days earlier before the constitution was signed. A final vote was called, Edmund Randolph called for another convention to carefully review the Constitution. This request was supported by George Mason and Elbridge Gerry, was voted down and the Constitution was adopted.
