    The Conquest of Nicaea

    Thousands of knights, surfs, and peseants took the call from Pope Urban II. The crusaders reached Constantinople and crossed the Asia Minor. In June they were accompanied by forces from the Byzantine Empire and took Nicaea.

    First Crusade

    In November of 1095, Pope Urban II called the first crusade. He called upon the knights of France to go to Jerusalem, or the Holy Land. He did this as a response to the Byzantine Empire to help repel the Seljuk Turks.

    Antioch is Sieged

    The crusades penetrated the city of Antioch and discovered what they thought to be a piece of the Holy Lance leading them to eventually take control of the whole city.

    Jerusalem is Captured

    The city's Jewish and Muslim defenders were killed by the crusaders in Jerusalem. Crusader cities were created in the aftermath of the slaughtering.

    The Siege of Edessa

    The crusade state of Edessa fell under the ruler of Zengi. It was a major setback for the christians.Pope Eugenius III called the second crusade, led by the rulers of France and Germany

    They Enter Damascus

    They entered and were forced to retreat after four days, which damaged the crusaders enthusiasm in Eurpoe.

    Battle of Hattin

    The crusaders lost land to the Ayyubid sultan. They conquest led to the fall of nearly all the lands held by the crusaders.

    Constantinople

    The warriors launched reached the walls of Constantinople in 1204. The city was attacked and a New Latin Empire was created.

    Pope Innocent launched the fifth crusade. His aim was on the land on Egypt and further to Jerusalem.
