President Eisenhower of the US issues an embargo on all trade with Cuba. This was due to Cuba negotiating with the Soviet Union. Fidel Castro responds by taking over all US businesses and property in Cuba. -
Fidel Castro becomes Prime Minister
Fidel Castro officially becomes the Prime Minister of Cuba. He then suspends all future elections and ignores Cuba's 1940 constitution. Castro later is elected president in 1976. -
