Charlemagne’s dad (Charles Martel) was king of the franks and stopped the muslin army of pushing further into Europe. How we stopped the Muslim army was that he took money from the churches to pay for a full time army to defend a large area of land were they could defend using strategy. When Charlemagne’s dad died, he was made emperor by pope Leo III and then later on because of his religious believes of Christianity was named the holy father of Europe. Also since he had a brother the empire was split in half, but mysteriously his brother died and Charlemagne was the soul heir to the empire. Even though Charlemagne is still alive, he is getting old and is already in his 70’s, which was a rare accordance because the life expectance was only 30 back then. His empire was falling because his children were fighting over his empire and now invaders like Vikings were pushing in and raiding anything that was easy and had loot.
