    The HMS Beagle arrives at and begins exploration of the Cape Verde Island.
  • Crossing the Line

    At this point in time, the HMS Beagle crossed the equator (along with Darwin partaking in a form of hazing ritual).

    The HMS Beagle arrived in Salvador, Brazil where Darwin explored the Brazilian jungle observing the native flora and fauna.

    The HMS Beagle arrives at Punta Alta, Argentina where Darwin observes giant fossils.
  • Arrival at Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

    Captain Robert FtizRoy repatriates three native people he brought from England, as well as attempts to start a Christian mission (which fails).

    Darwin explores the Falkland Islands where he studies more fossils

    The HMS Beagle arrives at Rio Negro, Argentina where Darwin explores the fertile lowland areas with the local people.

    The HMS Beagle arrives at Chiloe Island, Chile where Darwin observes the eruption of Mount Osorno and experiences the earthquake caused by this eruption in the woods near Valdivia.

    Arrival & Exploration at Galapagos Islands

    The HMS Beagle arrives at the Galapagos Islands where Darwin studies the different species of plants, birds, and tortoises. It is here that Darwin noticed the similarities between the species here and of those on the mainland, as well as discovered the "different specimens of birds" on the island were all finches, just with different beaks.
