Coal was first produced near Richmond, Virgina. Coal generates 41% of the world's energy. -
NATURAL GAS
During this time, natural gases were used for lighting street lamps. Natural gas was produced from coal and not from the earth. -
OIL
Oil was first discoved in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Almost a century later, oil became the most used energy source in the US, due to its need to power cars. -
HYDRPOWER
The first direct current hydropwer plant was in Appleto, Wisconsin. 25% of the electricity generated is through hydropwer. -
WINDMILL
The first windmill was used in the US by Charles Brush. Once General Elctrics acquired the windmill, they started to be called wind turnbines. -
ETHANOL POWER
Henry Ford produced the first ethanol powered vehile calld the quadricycle . Ethanol is an corn based alcohol used in fuels making them burn cleaner. -
GARBAGE ENERGY
In New York City, some energy came from the garbage burned in the incinerator. -

SOLAR ENERGY
Solar One was the first US commercial solar thermal power plant. It opened in Dagget, California. Solar Energy is very expensive. It cost five times the price to porduce energy from coal, glas, or nuclear sources. -
ELECTRICAL CARS
The first electrical car was produced by General Motors in 1990.
In 2010, the purchase of electircal cars accounted for only 2.2% of the car purchases wirldwide. -
ENERGY STAR REVOLUTION
The US Enviornmetal Protection Agency (EPA) created ENERGY STAR program. This is the standard for energy efficient goods. Starting first as a US program,ENERGY STAR is now used worlwide.
