    Donald Trumps wins Presidential Election
This was the first presidential election where social media was used so heavily. President Trump really gained a lot of followers both on and off the screen due to his influence on social media. He gained a lot of younger followers because of his ability to relate to them on a platform other than face to face.
  • Women's March on Washington

    Women's March on Washington
This march occurred the day after President Trump's inauguration. Women across the nation joined to protest his words against all groups of individuals. These women marched for equality for members of the LGBTQ community, people of color, those with disabilities, and many other groups. The idea for this march all started with a Facebook post from an elderly women that invited 40 of her friends. By the next morning, thousands had responded, and 3 million people joined in the march across the U.S.

Students marched through Washington D.C. to support laws to be put in place to prevent gun-violence. The hashtag #marchforourlives was used so much on all social media platforms (3.6 million times), that it attracted more than 200,000 people to join the march.
  • Trump's Family Separation Policy

    Trump's Family Separation Policy
As part of President Trump's "zero tolerance" policy, those who crossed the border with children would be separated from their families. People, naturally, did not respond very well to this act and retaliated on social media. Photos of children being separated from their parents were all over Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook with comments piling up in outrage.
  • Uprise in Chile

    Uprise in Chile
These protests began when metro fares started to rise. Tired of letting things slide, Chileans brought their own individual complaints to the streets. The problem is that with so many unique opinions and problems, it is difficult for every voice to be heard. Social media has played a huge role in allowing everyone to say what they think is wrong and to get other's opinions as well. It's much harder to solve everyone's issues with a country when everyone's voice differs. Social media helps that.
