It made it's first appearance at the Stanstead Fair, in 1867. The vehicle took five years to design, but only two to construct. It was created by Henry Seth Taylor, a jeweller and clockmaker. -
Karl Benz develops the three-wheeled car
Karl Benz had a dream of creating a lightweight car powered by a gasoline engine. The automobile ran for the first time on New Year’s Eve of 1879, but the major features of the vehicle were completed in 1885. Finally, Benz applied for a patent for his design of the "gas-powered engine". -
The Canadian Carriage Company
The company's plant (located in Brockville), was one of the largest of it's kind. The company manufactured carriages, surreys, traps, phaetons, wagons and sleighs. The company sold throughout Canada, the United States, and many other foreign countries. There were around 300-400 men working in the factories. -
Canada's first electric vehicle was created in Toronto, Canada
The first electric car in Canada made its debut at the Dixon Carriage event in Toronto. It was designed and built by William Still and Frederick B. Featherstonehaugh. The vehicle could reach speeds of 15 mph, which approximately translates to 25 km/h. -
The first successful gasoline-powered automobile in Canada was formed.
George Foote Foss from quebec was the engineer of this vehicle. He usually passed his time by tinkering with model trains or building them from scratch. One day, on a trip to Boston he went into a machine shop and saw his first automobiles. He then decided to create his own design, in hopes that his would be better than the rest.
