Eastern Lunatic Asylum
1841, was the start of the Eastern Lunatic Asylum, started by Dr. John Galt. This was the first publicly supported phsyciatric hospital.Galt had many revolutionary ideas about the treatment of the insane. He brought talk therapy and the use of medicine into the treatment of the insane because he believed that they had dignity.
