    1931 Star Spangled Banner
    The star spangles banner becomes official in the United States. President Herbert Hoover signed a bill that designated the "S.S.B." The Congress passed the act confirming Wilson's presidential order, and on March 3 President Herbert Hoover singed it into a law of the United States. I researched this because I was very curious on when it became our star spangled banner.
  • Dust Bowl

    Dust Bowl
    Was a name given to The Great Plains region. A drought was in the 1930s, or also know as the dirty 30s. It was a greatly damaged ecology and agriculture of the United States and Canadian prairies. In many different parts of Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico has very little rainfall, they also all have very light soil, and high winds. Its a destructive combination. I researched this because I found it very interesting on how different states in the United States had this problem.
  • "Scarface" Gangster Al

    "Scarface" Gangster Al
    He was born on January 17, 1899. A child from a Italian immigrant family, also rose up to infamy as a leader of a Chicago mafia during the Prohibition. Scarface was convicted of a tax evasion after many years of involvement of bootlegging and also gambling most likely in the city of Chicago; went to prison. In 1924 Capone was responsible for the murder of Joe Howard in retribution for Howard’s earlier assault of one of his friends. I found him interesting that is why I researched him.

    A policy to make concessions to the dictatorial powers in order to avoid conflict, governed; Anglo-French a foreign policy during the 30s. That legacy of the Great war in France and Britain generated a strong public and political desire to achieve peace at any price. Neither country was military ready for war. I researched this Event to help me understand better on the whole problem with France and Britain.

    Neutrality Act 1937
    The act of 1937. Was the outbreak of the Spanish war in 1936 and rising tide of fascism in Europe increased support for extending and also expanding the act. Under this law citizens were not allowed or forbidden from traveling on belligerent ships, etc. The different acts are laws to prevent anything bad happening to the United States while WW2 was going on. I researched the act of 1937 to help me understand the ideas they had to help the United States to stay out of trouble.

    This dance originated in the 1920s but like many other dances it didn't become popular until the 1930 and 1940s.The word Balboa originally meant to a dance characterized by its close embrace and full body connection.     Jitterbug (Dance)
    In 1944, with the United States' continuing involvement in World War II, about a 30% federal excise tax was levied against "dancing" like night clubs. Although the tax was later reduced to about 20%, "No Dancing Allowed" signs went up all over the country.     The Charleston (Dance)
    This dance originated in a small island near Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized mainstream dance music, from a tone called "The Charleston." A song that originated from a Broadway show called "Runnin' Wild." In the 40s the Charleston was popular for partners. When the Charleston was first a hit the dance wasn't for partners; you did it by yourself
  • Swing Dance

    Swing Dance
    Group of dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s-1940s, with each dance predating the popular "swing era". During the swing era, there were hundreds of styles of swing dancing, but those that have survived beyond that era include: Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, and Lindy Charleston.
