    Martin Luther was devoted to giving small children an education, Luther reformed education. Martin Luther's first acts as a reformer was to propose that monasteries be turned into schools. Martin Luther believed in universal schools. Most of all Martin Luther adovocated teaching each child how to read.

    John Comenius believed that early learning helped determine school success from a child. He also believed that children learn through their senses which could promote their learning.

    Jean Jacques Rousseau believed that as the child grew the child's maturation would unfold. Jean believed that natural approaches worked best which means that testing, family grouping, and authentic testing in education worked best.

Johann believed that education would be successful if it was taught with our senses, Johann also believed that the mother is the best teacher for the child. Johann also set the basis for discovery learning, allowing the student to discover and learn from it.

    John Dewey believed that the children's interest form the basis of the curriculum. Which means that children learn best when they learn about things they love. John Dewey believed that we should educate children today and not tomorrow. Deweys curriculum was based on child centered education and was based on the child's interest. John Dewey firmly believed that children learn through discovery learning.

    Maria Montessori in known for the "Montessori Method" for educating young children which is "life based curriculmn". Maria Montessori believed that all knowledge comes intrinsically from sensory experiences. Maria believed that all children should learn by having the right materials in their classrooms. There is a large number of public and provate schools that use the Montessori method and materials. All of the Montessoris schools provide training programs to help them.

    Jean Piaget believed that children are little scientist and "literally develop their own intelligence. Piage created the theory of congnitive devleopment based on ages and stages of the child. He believed that mental and physical experineces were important for cognitive development. Piaget believed that active involvement from the parent and teacher was particularly important in the child's learning.

    Lev Vygotcky believed that sociocultural theory which shares the importance of interpersonal relationships in social and cognitive develpoment. Vygotsky created the zone of proximal development which means that children can learn with the help of a more competent person. Vygotcky encourages teachers to use the scaffolding technique to help children learn, and to use cooperative learning and other forms of social learning.

    Eric Erickson said that life is a series with each stage that represents a critical period with social development. Some of the stages are: trust vs. mistrust, competence, purpose, gulit, autonomy and many more. Erickson believed that how parents and teachers communicate with the child helps determine social,emotional and cognitive developments.

    Abraham Maslow believed that human development was a process of meeting the basic needs throughout life. He believed that in order to understand/learn, you would have to meet your basic needs first like eating, toiliting, nuturing the child, naps. Maslow also created the "Maslow of Hierarchy of needs" which are needs that must be met before the child can learn.

    Urie Brofenbrenner believed that development is influenced by children and their environment. Brofenbrenner created the five interrelating systems which have a powerful impact on a child's social development. Brofenbrenner believed that teachers are more aware of the of how different environments shapes the lives of many children. He also believed that parent and educators should provide a positive atmosphere when the child is learning.

    Howard Gardener
    Howard Gardener created his theory of multiple intelligences, which means that people have several different ways of processing information and these ways that are independent of one another. Gardener believed that intelligences are not a single broad ability, but rather a set of abilities. Gardener's theory helps teachers develop and individualize programs and curriculum to match the child's intelligence. Gardener's theory encourages teachers to put new ways in how children learn.
