    Jean Piaget was a theorists that discovered cognitive development. This development focuses on children's intelligence and also their language development. He observed many children in order to perfect his theory. Piaget also came up with the idea of teaching children education that fits their development.

    Erik Erikson is known for the psychosocial theory. This is the theory that relate cognitive and social development to be one and can't be apart. He believes that children grow and learn along side of society and what is expected of them. Familes, schools, and childcare are all things that can affect a child's personality.

    Maria Montessori was the lady that founded the first Montessori program, She lived in Italy and opened her first practice in Rome. This practice was changed many times to make sure everything was perfect

    Abraham Maslow and Self-Actualization Theory

    Abraham Maslow created a theory that is based on beauty, symmmetry, approval, self-esteem, love, and acceptance. In order for a child to have those things, their needs need to be met. Self-actualization and self-fulfillment are a huge factor in this theory.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    This is and act that was passed to help with school funding and to also help with families that can't afford to send their children to school. This act will fund any program that has anything to do with furthering children's educations. Some examples are, after school programs, tutoring and even will fund reading and math.
  • Howard Gardner

    Howard Gardner
    Gardner came up with the theory that intelligence isn't defined in one way, people can be intelligent in more than one way. He came up with 9 different intelligences which include some of the following, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and visual/spatial.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    This is an act that comes from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act but focuses more on the testing aspect. Every 50 states are supposed to give a standardized testing to make sure children are learning what they are supposed to. If the school has high scores then they would be able to get federal funding.
  • Disabilities in the Present

    Unlike in th past, medical issues such as epilepsy and tourette's aren't looked at as being possesed but as an illness. In the past, people with disabilites were hidden away and abused. Today disabilities are a norm to society such as, having speical education classrooms and even having medical attention.
