  • The Austrian Anschluss

    The Austrian Anschluss
    Hitler threatened to invade German-speaking Austria unless Austrian Nazis were given important gov't posts. Austria;s chancellor gave into this demand, but then tired to put matter of unification with Germany to a democratic vote. Fearing the outcome, Hitler sent troops into Austria in March and announced the Anschluss, or unification ,of Austria and Germany.
  • The Munich Conference

    The Munich Conference
    Hitler next announced German claims to Sudetenland, an area of Czechoslovakia. France threatened to fight if Germany attack Czechoslovakia, and the Soviet Union also promised aid. Representatives of Britain, France, Italy, and German agreed to meet in Munich to decide Czechoslovakia's fate. At the Munich Conference Britain and France agreed to Hitler's demands and a policy that was known as appeasement or in other words exchange for peace.
