  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    Proclamation of Neutrality
    President George Washington declaired that the citizens of the United States stay neutral in the war between Britian and France. This proclamation kept the US neutral between the two countries because he believed America could not afford to enter another war.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    Alien and Sedition Acts
    President John Adams created a law that stated all forigners must reside in the United states for 14 years before becoming a citizen. This gave the president power to remove "aliens" or dangerous forigners and provided penalties for working against the government.
  • War With Tripoli

    War With Tripoli
    Tripoli was raising taxes on American ships coming in exchange for protection from pirate attacks and raised the costs. President Thomas Jefferson refused to pay this and declaired war. America won with an attack from Egypt and our Navy majorly increased in size.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    President Thomas Jefferson made a land deal with France and doubled the size of the US for $15,000,000($0.03 per acre). This created all or part of 15 states and after the purchase, Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the new land.
  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Battle of Tippecanoe
    President James Madison tried to get natives to abandon old traits and become farmers. The natives refused and after a battle, lost their land to 400,000 Europeian-American settlers and all rights to their land became invalid.
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine
    President James Monroe shaped the present-day American foreign policy with the Monroe Doctrine. When powerful monarchies in Europe threatened to stamp out representative governments if they developed in old colonies, the Doctrine warned the Europeians that the United States would respond harshly if they interfered with free countries in North or South America. This kept the Europeian governments at bay from harming other governments.
  • Tariff of Abominations

    Tariff of Abominations
    President John Qiuncy Adams raised taxes on foreign goods and made things more expensive especially if the people did not have that industry in their region. This protected Northern factories from competition and the South paid more for their goods.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    President Andrew Jackson moved five Eastern native tribes to Oklahoma abandoning many treaties and was unconstitutional. This gained more Eastern land for the US but the Cherokee were put into military stockades and marched to Oklahoma. This became known as the Trail of Tears because so many died on the journey.
