  • 1483

    Martin Luther

    He believed it was important to establish schools that teach children how to read. He translated the bible because he believed that they should read it in their native tongue because the authority should come from through scriptures and not the Catholic Church.
  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau

    He wrote a Book called Emile and advocated for natural education of children without restrictions. He believed that in unfolding, where what the child will be unfolds naturally.
  • Lee Vygotsky

    Theory of development describing social process of learning and impact of development of language. He created the concept of scaffolding and the Zone of proximal development (ZPD).
  • Jean Piaget's cognitive development

    Piaget was developing a theory that stated how a child constructs a mental model of the world. He argued that intelligence was not a fixed trait and that cognitive development occurs because of biological maturation and interaction with the world. (https://www.simplypsychology.org/piaget.html)
  • Economic Opportunity Act

    This Act was intended to help people with low economic status. The EOA provided for the beginning Head Start. The EOA was later named the Head Start Act of 1981.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    The act was passed to help fund primary and secondary schools. It helps to fund education for low income families.
  • Civil rights act

    Congress amended the Civil rights act. It is now called the Equal opportunity in Education Act.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    States must test students in reading and math. Because of this act children are able to be treated fairly, equally and are able to have a good education.
