  • Aboriginal life

    Before the French took over the North American Land, the Aboriginals (Natives) had many traditions and myths which was really nature friendly and was not a threat to anyone.
  • The French Regime

    This was the beginning of when the French took over the land of North America in 1608. To mark that the land belonged to the French they stuck a French flag in the ground next to the shoreline. Also, the establishment of the first settlement (trading post) in Quebec by Samuel de Champlain commenced the French Regime. The economy was mainly based on Fur trade. How it worked was that the French had the Natives to do the hunting, then, the Natives would give the product to the Voyageurs which were
  • The British Regime

    This was when the British took over the land of the French and also took over the fur industry. But slowly, over time, the economy was turning to the timber side. Timber was really important because during the war they needed wood to make their ships. So, Britain would get their wood from Europe.
  • The North West Company

    Canada needed to get the most amount of timber they can possibly get. And one of the ways they decided to get it was through the Ohio Valley that was a very popular trading post. But, unfortunately, after the American Revolution’s (which is when the 13 Colonies turned into the United States) taking over of the Ohio Valley, the Canadians needed to go to the North-West part of North America where they created a trading post named The North West Company.

    The cause of the North West Company was because the English took over the land of the Ohio Valley and the south of Canada
  • Napoleon Blockade

    In the Orient, the British were getting their timber from a certain place and since there was a war going on. The Napoleons (French) came in and blocked off the land in which the English were getting their timber. The decision made by the English wasn’t to engage in another fight. It was to make the colony in Canada get their timber and to send the wood back to Britain.

    The creation of the first bank in Montreal was very advantageous towards the businessmen because they were allowed to store their money in the bank which also lead to the creation of the stock market. The creation of the bank gave the people a chance to invest and obtain credit.
  • Reciprocity Treaty

    After all that happened economically with Canada and Britain with all of the customs and the Free Trade. Canada needed a new ally. So they went south. That was the cause of the Reciprocity Treaty with Canada and The United States, which only lasted about 10 years. This treaty meant customs and duties between the two countries ceased. This was an advantage for Canada because the United States had such a large market.

    The first phase of industrialization involves the first wave of rural exodus of the farmlands because of new innovations in the city. The industrial life at that time consisted of dairy, unions, steam engine (which was runed on coal), textile and timber. The one reason why these concepts brought the farmers to the cities were because they made the factory life a bit easier but still, it had bad conditions.

    The National Policy were three measures that John A. Macdonald put into act to enforce immigration and to make Canada have a lot of attractions. The first measure was to encourage immigration with publicity. The second measure was to increase customs and the third was to build rail ways.

    The second phase of industrialization involves the second wave of rural exodus because of five new concepts; the population learnt how to use chemicals; The steam engines were replaced with hydroelectricity; there were a lot more investments with the Americans; there was a lot more mining; and pulp and paper came more into effect.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression was when the stock market, which was newly introduced, crashed. Which led to a huge economic crash. The stock market crashed because people were buying shares in companies on borrowed money, then, the companies were making a surplus of production and the people got scared so the people called in their depts and the stocks plummeted.-Black Thursday was the day that the market dropped below zero where everyone got scared and some of them even committed suicide.-Most sectors

    During the Great Depression, the government knew they had to come into affect while this event was happening. So, they therefore decided to give chances to the population to work because at the time they were many little job opportunities. These chances were public works/projects; work camps; Direct Aid (food coupons); and they encouraged farming.
  • World War II

    World War Two was when Germany was in charge of concentration camps in the middle of Europe. These concentration camps were where mostly Jew but other races were forced to either work to death or to be killed right away. At first, the other countries didn’t figure out about this holocaust, but when they did they instantly threw their forces in to Europe against Germany and that’s the war.     The Quiet Revolution was also known as “La Revolution Tranquille.” Before this quiet revolution the conservator: Maurice Duplessis, which was a very traditional man because he was a very big fan for the church running things like the education of the next generation. Therefore, the quiet revolution was when the government slowly started to take over the main aspects of life like education, economy and social life. They sole objective was to lower the power of the church/catholisism.
  • Oil Crisis

    An oil crisis of the late 1970s to 1980s led to a recession and the disengagement of the state. Many government companies therefore were privatized. This led to a more competitive economy and politics.
  • NAFTA Agreement

    This was when Canada, Mexico and the United States, made an agreement of Free trade which incolved the end of being taxed through customs.
