Edgar Nixton became an community activist for the NAACP. The NAACP is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP was started to try to get more rights for the black people of the times. They had meeting and started many riots. -
Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters
Nixon was also an oraganizer of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters which payed men to work 400 hours per month or 11,000 miles; which ever was reseved first. During this they worked at railroad attendant's, or Pullman Porters and train personnel. At this time it was the largest catogory of black labor in the United States and Canada. -
March to the Montgomery County Courthouse
This was a march with 750 African Americans. This march was to the march to the Montgomery County courthouse. This was an atempt to register to vote. This was an unsuccessful march. -
Montgomery chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
During this time NIxon was elected president of Montgomery chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Then two years later he became the state president of the organization. The Montgomery chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is an organization in the United States that fought for African- Amican civil rights. -
Run for a seat on the county Democratic Executive Committee
Edgar Nixton was the first black to run for a seat on the county Democratic Executive Committee. The next year he was questioned the Democratic candidates for the Montgomery City Commission on their positions on civil rights issues. -
Rosa Park
Edgar Nixon was notified about the arest.She was arested for not getting up from a set on a bus for a white man. His wife Virginia had gained information about the arest. Nixon had bailed out Rosa Parks. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
Edger Nixtion was an organizer of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott higlighted issues of segrigation in the South. Due to this many of the bus companys went bankrupt. Due to this it was taken to the United States Supreme Court, it was ordered to end bus segregation. -
Edgar Nixon's house was bombed
This happend two days later after Martin Luther King Jr.'s home was bombed. This did not get as much attention as as King's house bombing thought. This happend during a boycott. -
MIA
On this day Nixon decied that he was going become disassociated form the group called MIA. He did this because of an agrument with the leaders of the group. He was a middle class man but due to his reading and writing leave he would be consided in the lower- class.Although leaving MIA, Nixon continued to fight for the right of Afican Americans. -
Fading into the back
During this time Edgar Nixon was staring to fad into the backround. He lost alot of his political fame during this time also. He also did not get many awards for all of the things he did during the civil-rights movement.
