  • Fisher Education Act

    Fisher Education Act raises school leaving age from 12 to 14 and ends all fees for elementary education.
  • Free Milk

    Free milk provided for all children in need
  • Ministry of Education Created

    The Ministry of Education had been created in 1944, which became the Department of Education and Science in 1964.
  • Organising School Structure

    The Butler Education Act creates a Ministry of Education; ends fee- paying in maintained schools; organises public education into primary, secondary and further.
  • Leaving age raised to 15

    The leaving age raised to 15 in England and Scotland. Secondary Schools Examination Council recommends General Certificate of Education at O, A and S-level.
  • Joint Mathematics Council Formed

    The Joint Mathematical Council was formed in 1963 to improve the teaching of mathematics in UK schools. The Council was formed in 1964, which regulated and standardize UK exams.
  • DofE (DES)

    The Ministry of Education becomes the Department of Education and Science (DES)
  • Invention of 'a calculator

    Jerry Merryman and James Van Tassel, led by Jack Kilby developed a calculator small enough to be held in your hand. The calculator was just over six inches tall and surpassed all other calculator released just a year earlier. It weighed 55 pounds and cost $2,500.
  • Leaving age now 16

    The school-leaving age is raised to 16
  • Scientific Calculators came into Schools

    Electronic calculators began to be owned at school from the early 1980s. Society believed that calculators would diminish abilities of mental arithmetic. Scientific calculators came to the aid for those working out logarithms and trigonometric functions.
  • GCSE's Introduced

    The GCSE is introduced for teaching, replacing O-levels and CSEs.
  • Education Reform and Ofsted

    The Education Reform Act ushers in the national curriculum; national testing at seven, 11 and 14; Ofsted; local management of school budgets; grant maintained schools and city technology colleges.
  • Sats for 11 year old

  • First Smart Board

    SMART introduced the first SMART Board interactive whiteboard in 1991. It was the first interactive whiteboard to provide touch control of computer applications and annotation over standard Microsoft Windows applications. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard, connected to an LCD panel and a computer, introduced the world to interactive technology in classrooms.

I engaged fully in secondary school and gained many opportunities thoughout my time including becoming a prefect as well as assistant head boy!

In all truth this move wasn't a particularly great move for myself as i struggled to adapt to there way of learning as it was very different to that of which I was use to. As well as this the staff weren't supportive which made the year I spent here even more difficult

    After seeking advice from my secondary school teachers about wanting to teach maths and not knowing how to get there i was advised to consider an accounting course. I enrolled locally on a college course in accounting however chose to do the fast-track option which was to complete 3 years worth of work in 1.

    I started my foundation degree whilst also studying my Level 4 qualification on Accounts. I worked 4 days a week in my old secondary school to do this which gave me the opportunity to teach and take responsibility for my own classes and there learning.
