  • Butler Act

    The 1944 Education Act, ended the 5-14 education system, with the introduction of primary and secondary stages, whilst abolishing fees for secondary education, meaning compulsory education was now free up to the age of fifteen.
    The act introduced three types of secondary school: Grammar, Technical, Secondary Modern. With Grammar schools selecting their students via the 11+. Technical schools died out quickly with the remaining two types of schools forming the provision offered by the state.
  • Education Reform act 1988 part 1

    Choice of school, where parents could specify which school was their preferred choice was introduced, this affected my education as i did not attend my catchment area school as a teenager. CTCs introduced. This allowed new autonomous schools to be taken out of financial control of LEAs, with control handed to the head teacher and governors, a requirement for partial private funding existed and as such only 15 schools were eventually set up. This scheme was the predecessor of Academies.

    Key Stages were introduced to education, separating the learning of students of different ages, The first instance of the National Curriculum was introduced
  • Birth

    I was born at Sandwell Hospital, 10:21pm
  • First Season Ticket

    My dad brought myself and him our first season tickets at Wolves and took my every other week. Thus as far i know, i've always been a fan of football and this in turn lead me to explore other sports as i grew up, be these hockey and cricket as were commonly played by myself when i was younger or the various american sports i became interested in during my teens.
  • Started Primary School

    Infant school Physical education mainly consisted of lots of aesthetic activities, dance, basic gymnastics. Junior School PE consisted of more games. Mrs. Wahl's willingness to embrace our love of cricket meant she ran a club for us
  • PS1

    The playstation one i was given as a birthday present served as a platform to explore every sport that i could get my head around, which in turn lead to me wanting to watch them played in "real life" which in turn has lead me to wanting to play them myself. This is wear my affinity for baseball and rugby has came from.
  • Started Secondary School

    Having attended a secondary school that had sports college status, i feel that the schools focus on the positive role sport and physical education could have on lifelong participation. i feel that this exposure lead to an enhanced love of sport throughout my life time and this has encouraged me to partake in sport outside of school. This love and participation in turn influenced my decision to chose PE as my subject of choice

  • A Level Drama

    Having taken A level Drama, Mrs. Glover helped bring me out of my shell and showed me first hand how a brilliant teacher can become a mentor and a friend as well as an educator.
  • Pass A Levels and Start Apprenticeship

    Started my an Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering, having finished My A Levels. Was unsure what i wanted to do at the time and this seemed like a decent trade to pick up. I didn't particularly want to do this, but it was the most appropriate thing at the time
  • Rugby

    Before i took up rugby, i had always been of the opinion that whilst i had a sporting mind, i was not particularly great at anyone sport. Being asked to play rugby by a friend and finding i was particularly good at it, encouraged me to play more seriously and in turn boosted my sporting confidence significantly, had i not had this boost, i doubt i would have taken up my initial degree.
  • Academies Act 2010

    It has become more common for secondary schools to choose to follow the path of becoming an academy and taking control of various aspects of their own running
  • Sister Started University

    Being the competitive sort, When my sister beat me to becoming the first member of my family to go to university and also eventually coming away with a first in Midwifery, this in turn encouraged me to attend university myself which had been a long term goal. However i did not feel like i knew what i wanted to study and thus i postponed the decision to do so
  • Educating Essex

    This show, highlighted the importance of teachers and how they can mould and transform their students life
  • Started Working For Molson Coors

    By working as a BDE, i developed skills associated with performance, sales and persuasion which i believe have in turn affected my practice and confidence to teach.
  • London 2012

    One of the more successful Olympic games for Team GB. Powerfully inspired by the athletes and wanting to inspire others
  • BA (Hons) Physical Education

    in September 2013, i started studying PE at the university of Wolverhampton with a view to going onto a PGCE upon completion of my course.

    Coallition Government introduce new National Curriculum covering PE as well as other subjects
  • Educational Excellence Everywhere

    Educational excellence everywhere paper launched by Nicki Morgan, which stated All Schools to become Academies and began to Remove local authorities
  • Brexit

    Following Brexit, David Cameron resigns as leader of the Conservative party and as Prime Minister, paving the way for Theresa May to become PM. Mrs May chose Justine Greening to become education sec, who's most prevalent idea appears to be the of reintroduction of grammar and faith schools with the government suggesting "selection can play a role”.
