    Large numbers of Army recruits needed to be assessed in a short period of time. The standardized test was developed during World War 1. Standardized testing is a form of assessment, though controversial, that is still largely used in the educational setting today.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    A turning point in educational history that created equality among races. No longer could a child of color be turned away from a school based on race. All children had the right to an equal education.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    The beginnings of federally funded educational programs. Elementary and Secondary Education Act was a realization that early intervention was essential lead to the development of Head Start and Title 1. These services were to benefit economically disadvantaged children a boost of readiness before entering school.
  • Public Law 94-142

    Public Law 94-142
    Equal education includes more than race, equality includes children with disabilities as well. An important act in education that brought opportunities to children who never had them before. Allowing them access to public education that was specialized to their individual needs.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    Though ultimately a failure, No Child Left Behind acknowledged the achievement gaps between minority and low income students and put forth standards to close those gaps. Today's reading curriculum is still a standard put in place by No Child Left Behind.
