Educational History (5 Key Points)

  • Women are allowed and accepted into Academies

Women are allowed and accepted into Academies
Due to supply and demand of the hundreds of academies in the United States, women were finally accepted into Academies which ended up being "Teacher Training Schools". I feel this is an important event simply because it made men and women equal in education and learning. Without women in our education systems, I feel we would be a lot less developed than we are today.
  • Taxpayer-supported Public High Schools are developed.

Taxpayer-supported Public High Schools are developed.
Public high schools are introduced in alternate to upper class Latin grammar schools. This turned into a public institution quickly as it was teaching the necessary English topics and subjects. This was a very crucial time in the history of education. It allowed for all students, rich or poor, to get an education. This was ultimately for men, but we saw the transition that it took in comparison to what it is today.
  • The NEA forms the two "Committees" to hold standards.

The NEA forms the two "Committees" to hold standards.
(1893,1895) The NEA appoints a committee of 10, and a committee of 15 respectively for high school and elementary education to hold standards. This was a step in organized curriculum for high school and elementary programs. Both of these helped better shape our standards for students. This is important to education because it holds educators and intstitutions accountable for the performance of students and teachers to hit goal areas and to hit expectations.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
Brown v. Board determines that separate but equal facilities are actually unequal in a unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court. Before the ruling, minorities were deprived of equal educational opportunities of whites. Here again, this is a key event that happened making education an equal opportunity for all people. We ALL as a group of different learning individuals come together to make a diverse, effective learning enviroment due to our different cultural and ethnical beliefs.

Virtual/Online Education is introduced around the mid-90s
Emergence of the internet in the 80s and 90s made for the ability to teach online. Since, students have taken this alternative route of education sometimes over traditional styles. This could be the main style of teaching in the near future helping students get an education from anywhere that is convenient for them. This also is an opportunity for people with complex lifestyles to get an education on their "own time" versus having to attend a class from a certain time to another.
