Educational History Timeline

  • Committee of Ten

    Committee of Ten
Established a standard high school curriculum for students- all students were to take these courses, regardless of their background, education plan or career direction. I chose this event because it was a great start to making school equal for all children. The focus was for all boys to get the same education so they all had an equal opportunity to get a great job.- "Educational Foundations"
  • Plessy v Ferguson

    Plessy v Ferguson
U.S. Supreme Court now supported racial discrimination “separate but equal”. I found this court case the start of the end of segregation. It wouldn't end for a long time but the fact that the Supreme Court was starting to recognize that there was a problem with treating people of different skin color differently.- "Educational Foundations"
  • Brown v Board of Education

    Brown v Board of Education
Suit filed to allow African American’s to enroll in public schools serving white children- said segregated public schools were not equal and could not be made equal.-I choose this one because it is another great step to end segregation. This event proved that it was hard for children to be learning and taught the same things from different teachers and not having the same resources.- "Educational Foundations"
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
Ended segregation and banned discrimination- I choose this event because it was a huge step for more than the school district. This was the step to give everyone in America the chance to be the best they could be with the scaffolding to do so. All children could get a good education and families were able to walk into a store and know they were safe to buy what they needed.- "Educational Foundations"
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
Held schools accountable for students outcomes- especially low-income students, minority students, English language learning and students with disabilities- This program really helped those children who didn't qualify for special education but were struggling in school . I found this program very helpful for my son who didn't qualify for SPED but needed the extra help in school.- "Educational Foundations"
