    Anne Boleyn (Elizabeth's mother) was arrested and taken to the Tower of London that was used as a prison at the time. She was put on trial for incest, witchcraft, and adultery.     Death of Henry VIII
    Henry VIII died in 1547 when he was 55 years old. Elizabeth was caught being affectionate with her stepmother's husband Thomas Seymour, she was kicked out. Not soon after, Seymour is executed for planning to marry Elizabeth and kidnap Edward VI (Who was appointed king after the death of their father).     By the age of 25, all of Elizabeth's siblings passed away and she rose to the throne. In January of 1559, she celebrated her coronation. Her parade went through London and Westminster.     When her sister Mary ruled England she wanted to restore it to Catholicism. She was very unfair and gave harsh punishments to those that didn't agree with her, this gave her the nickname 'Bloody Mary'. Though, Elizabeth proved to be different. During her reign, she changed the country from Catholicism to Protestantism just like her father had done before her.

    Refuses Marriage
    The parliament refused to fund Queen Elizabeth unless she got married. This upset the Queen leading her to criticize Parliament members telling them the country is her priority, not marriage. “I am already bound unto a husband which is the Kingdom of England”. She believed that if she married a foreign prince the prince and his country would benefit more than her and her country.

    Queen Elizabeth wanted to look beyond Europe to increase the nation’s wealth and expand trade. Francis Drake was the first Englishman to sail around the globe(1580). Five years later Sir Walter Raleigh occupies a place on the east coast of North America. He named this place Virginia after Elizabeth I, ‘the Virgin Queen’.

    Mary was the cousin of Elizabeth and she was a Catholic, many Catholics believed she should be Queen of England. Making her a threat to her throne, she kept Mary prisoner for 19 years. Soon after Mary's execution, the Queen of Scots pushes Philip of Spain to invade England. Being rivals for many years Philip sent multiple ships which were known as the Spanish Armada. A horrible storm caused the shops to break and fall. Only half of the 130 ships made it back to Spain.

    Passed away at 69 years old, Queen Elizabeth I reigned over the Golden Age. She will always be remembered as a powerful monarch with a beautiful appearance and glorious jewelry and clothes. She managed to maintain peace and is glorified for being the second queen in English history to rule in an age where sexism was at its highest.
