Erickson's first stage

  • Little Henry

    Allen and Frances live, own and operate a dairy farm in North Dakota. Allen and Frances have one child, his name is Henry. Henry is 2.5 years old. Henry is a mischievous, very active, curious, energetic boy. The Dairy farm has a lot of dangerous equipment, tools and large animals around. Allen and Frances are always concerned for their little boy that he won't fall and get injured. In Erickson's second stage Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, the crisis is will Henry get his independence?
  • Little Henry

    It's the end of a long hot summer and Henry is almost three years old. Henry thinks he is big enough to walk off his front porch, trek through his yard down the hill and cool off in the creek. Henry makes it all the way down the hill and almost reaches the creek when he gets swooped up by his father and swatted on his bum then reprimanded for escaping. In Erickson's second stage Autonomy vs. shame and doubt Henry is feeling more shame and doubt as a result of his reprimand.
  • Little Henry

    Henry is 3 yrs old. It is snowing in North Dakota and Henry wants to play outside. Henry's dad is outside working and his mother is inside making lunch and is too busy to bring Henry outside. Henry decides to go outside by himself. With his mother's watchful eye Henry toddles off into the snow to find his dad. Henry succeeds and finds his dad in the cow barn and decided to play right outside the barn doors and builds a small snowman. Henry has gained autonomy is Erickson's 3rd stage.
