Erikson's Psychological Theory Timeline

  • Infancy: Trust vs. Mistrust

    Infancy: Trust vs. Mistrust
    This was a time period when i was a baby and was very attached to my mom! Her and my dad were my main caregivers, but i was definitely a momma's girl. This is the first stage of Erikson's Psychosocial Theory called trust vs. mistrust. This is the stage where infants establish trust for the person in their life the provides, love and care for them which is usually their main caregiver. If at this age the infant does not obtain this relationship they generally grow up facing mistrust for others.
  • Toddlerhood: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

    Toddlerhood: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
    When I was a toddler my parents decided to put me in a singing and dance group which was very shocking since I was the youngest of 5 siblings and all of them played hockey. I was always being "babied" everyone doing everything for me, so let me decide since I was older and could start making decisions on my own. This stage of Erikson's Theory is called Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. During this period children develop a sense of who they are and recognize themselves from others.
  • Adolescence: Identity vs, Identity Confusion

    Adolescence: Identity vs, Identity Confusion
    This was my freshmen year of highschool I wasa a transfer student so I did not know many people at all and was afraid if I was going to make friends or fit in! At this age many girls are unsure of who they are. Meeting new friends here helped me establish who I was and who i wanted to be at this stressful age. This stage of Erikson's Theory is called Identity vs. Identity Confusion. During this stage Adolescence are establishing who they are and where they fit in within their culture.
  • Early Adulthood: Intamacy vs. Isolation

    Early Adulthood: Intamacy vs. Isolation
    This is when I first started dating my now serious boyfriend now, after i had graduated highschool and was about to enter college. This stage of Erikson's Theory Intamacy vs. Isolation. During this stage Early Adults enter serious realtionships because they have a newly formed identity from the previous stage. In this stage if an individual isn't able to make themselves vulnerable enough to commit they will end up isolated.
