Erikson's Stages

  • Adulthood

    Adulthood
Things have been quiet at the Death Star, and this makes Vader anxious. What is he doing with his life if not terrorizing the masses? He beings to worry he is not having enough of an impact on the galaxy. He decides to spend more time with his children so that they may become like him in the future to further his reign. Generativity vs stagnation is about helping the future generation to pass vicariously your ideals, or doing nothings and essentially wasting your life (not passing it on).
  • Early Childhood

    Early Childhood
On her fourth birthday, Leia is excited to spend the day with her father. He promises fun activities, but her idea of fun is not the same. Vader gets angry when she begins to make hearts from his cloak, and insists that is not fun, but playing with saberes is. Leia begins to feel doubtful about what she knows to be fun and not fun. In autonomy vs. shame and doubt, young children grapple with growing independence, and could feel shameful if new skills or interests are displeasing to parents.
  • School Age

    School Age
Luke is excited to start elementary school. When he lines up for role call, he notices that they lined up by height, and he is at the end of the line. All day he stands tiptoe, even asks Vader to stretch him so he can be like his peers. He worries he won't be good at basketball when the class playes because of his height.
Industry vs. inferiority says that if kids don't see themselves matching up to their peers and performing well, they will begin to lose self-confidence and feel inferior.
  • Adolescence

    Adolescence
Leia is now a teenager, and she is really enjoying her academics and finds that she excels in her political sciences. She really feels like she could be the next big politician. Vader says girls aren't good at politics, but anyone can destroy planets. Leia is worried Vader may be right, and begins to consider who she is. Identity vs. Role Confusion says that in this time, we are discovering what and who we can be. Our identity can be assured, or it can lead to confusion if it is challenged.
