    Industry vs Inferiority in Middle Childhood
    John is 7 years old, He just entered the 3rd grade. Last year he joined the karate school and was enjoyed learning it very much. Because of the encouragement from his Parents, John has interest in pursuing black belt level in karate. Erikson’s 4th stage of development industry vs inferiority, if a child is encouraged and taught well, a sense of industry that includes eagerness and enthusiasm for learning and confidence in mastering the skills required.

     Generativity VS Stagnation in Middle Adulthood
    Stacey and John, both 40 year old, Parents of 2 children (Alicia, 6 years old and Alex, 7 years old) Stacey and John having their kids help them in the kitchen, this brings so much joy to Stacey and John and also to their kids. In Erikson’s 7th stage, Generativity VS Stagnation, the parents focused on how they can contribute to the well-being of their kids for the next generations, through providing, teaching and caring for others.

    John Lee, is a 15 year old boy entering high school. Everyone in school seems to know who they are but Cody is having questions about himself. Most of the time, he finds himself checking out other boys in his class. In Erikson’s 5th stage Identity VS Confusion in Adolescence to develop an awareness of who they are and what their place is, they explore their independence and develop a sense of self. For those unable to achieve this, identity confusion results.
  • Intimacy VS Isolation in Early Adulthood

     Intimacy VS Isolation in Early Adulthood
    Kristen is a 23 year old who has been dating her boyfriend for a year and a half. Her boyfriend is moving out of state and wants her to come with him. In Erikson’s 6th stage Intimacy VS Isolation, the challenge for young adults is to risk their newly formed identity by entering a committed intimate relationships. If Kristen doesn’t make herself vulnerable she may end up being isolated, without an intimate partner relationship
