Mach Bands
Mach's contributed work on "Mach Bands." Named after him, Mach Bands is an optical illusion that exaggerates the contrast between the different shades of gray, when contacted with each other. Mach was the first to demonstrate the presence of these dark and bars in the late 19th century.

The Science of Mechanics: A Critical and Historical Account of its Development
Published in 1883, this work is regarded as one of Mach's most important publication. Mach goes into detail about his reasoning on the scientific process and also the fundamentals of mechanics. -
Mach Number
With his work on sound waves, Mach helped lay out the principles of supersonics and the Mach Number. The Mach Number is the ratio of speed of an object to the speed of sound. Mach proved the existence of shock waves. The first photograph of a projectile shockwave was taken in 1886 -
Mach's Principle
Mach's Principle is based on the physical origins of inertia. The principle tries to explain inertia by stating that all masses in the universe are connected. Inertia frames are assumed to be affected my cosmic motion and the placement of all matter. Einstein stated that Mach's intertial theories is one of the influences for theory of relativity. -
