    Battle of the Atlantic
    It involved the Canadian Royal Army, the Soviet Union, the British Army, the Italian Army and Germany. Germany proceeded to sink merchant ships and other destroyers they came across. All of this was took place throughout the northern region of the Atlantic Ocean. Once the United States entered the war the battle spread all the way to the coast the United States and the Caribbean Sea. The battle lasted over 5 years and 8 months from September 3, 1939 to May 8, 1945.

    The Germans used submarines to sneak up on British ships and launched torpedoes to sink them. The British didn't know what to do so they lost a lot of ships initially.

    After Hitler had conquered most major parts of Europe, all that was left was Great Britain. Beofre doing so, they had to destroy the British Royal Air Force. The Battle occurred when Germany attempted to bomb Great Britain in an effort to destroy their air force and then begin the invasion. The battle consisted of Germany making an attack on Great Britain.

  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The German Army made an attack against the Soviet Union. This battle consisted of the German Air Force bombing the Volga River and also the city of Stalingrad. It was a major industrial and communications center for the Soviet Union in the south. Also, it was named after the Soviet leader Josef Stalin. This made the city important to Stalin and also important to Hitler, who hated Stalin.
  • Battle of El Alamein

    Battle of El Alamein
    This battle was between the British Amry and the German-Italian Army. British Commander Bernard Law Montgomery launched an infantry attack on El Alamein. This was to stop the Afrikan Korps from reaching the Suez Canal, otherwise the ability for Britain to spply themselves would be hindered greatly. This happened in a rough desert about 150 miles west of Cairo, the capital of Egypt.

    This was the British American invasion of French North Africa during WWII. This was the first time Britain and the U.S. had jointly worked together. They planned to invade Sicily, then move up onto the mainland of Italy. They also planned to invade Morocco and Algeria. This was one more step towards defeating the German Empire.

    The invasion of Sicily was a major WWII campaign in which the allies took Sicily from the Axis Powers. It was a major air and water battle that led to six weeks of land battles.
  • Operation Overlord

    Operation Overlord
    This was led by U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Thery planned to invade France , however Germany was supiscious and slightly prepared for it. The allies made great use of German spies in Britain working as double agents. They convinced German leadership that the attack would be at Calais. But instead, they targeted Normandy instead.

    It was an offensive campaign launched in the Ardennes forest in Belgium, France. This German surprised attack weilded the highest loss of American lives from any operation. This also severely depleted Germany's armored forces on the western front which Germany was largely unable to replace.
  • Hitler Commits Suicide

    Hitler Commits Suicide
    Knowing his death and or capture was imminent , Hitler killed himself with his friend who had become his wife the day before he killed himself. He asked his doctor the best way to commit suicide and was told to take a cyanide pill then shot himself in the head, he did as he was told.

    This was the official day of Victory in Europe over the German Empire which is now a public holiday. This marked the end of WWII
