This was the first time that the CMAs were broadcasted live. Johnny Cash was the big winner this night, winning five awards including Entertainer of the Year. -
Loretta Lynn- EOTY
Loretta Lynn was the first female to win entertainer of the year. She also won female vocalist of the year. Loretta and Conway Twitty won duo of the year 4 years in a row (1972-1975). -
Switched Televission broadcast
The CMAs was previously broadcasted on NBC and switched to CBS. -
Barbra Mandrell- First to win 2 consecutive EOTY
Barbra Mandrell was the first person to win 2 consecutive Entertainer of the Year awards, in 1980-1981, Her song "years" that she realeased in 1980 was one of her most popular. -
Alambama- the first group to win ETOY
Alabama was the first group to win Entertaner of the Year, they won in 1982,1983,1984, breaking Barbra Mandrell record for consecutive Entertainer of the Year wins. There popular songs Take Me Down, Mountian Music, and She and I, made these years very sucsessful for them -

This was the first and only year the the CMAs were not hosted in Nashville Tennessee. They were hosted in New York City. The artists were very uncomfortable in the Big Apple and were very happy when they returned to Nashville. -

Miranda Lambert- Consecutive FVOTY awards
In 2010, Miranda Lambert won female vocalist of the year for the first time. She has won every year after that setting the record at 6 Female vocalist of the year awards and counting.
