Events Leading To The Revolutionary War

  • Albany Congress

    Expecting a war to break out soon the Brittish government called a meeting of colonial leaders. This included the British, colonists, and Iroquois. The British wanted an alliance with the Indians to fight the french in the revolutionary war. But the Indians rejected thembecause they thought that the French would win but later they joined them after relizing that the British might win the war. This event took place in Albany NY.
  • Period: to

    French and Indian War

    French/Indians VS British/colonists/Iriquois. They both wanted control over the Ohio river valley. The British ended up winning the war. The french ended up giving away almost all their land after surrendering to the British.
  • Treaty Of Paris

    After losing Quebec [ The French capital] they could no longer defend any other territories so they surrendered and signed the Treaty Of Paris. After surrendering the French gave the British French Canada and all of their land east of the Mississippi River except for New Orleans. Britten also received Spanish Florida. Native Americans also did not like this because since it is British land Native Americans can not stop the British from settling in their land.
  • The Quartering Act

    One year later after the Sugar Act they came up with a new act the Quartering Act. Which said that they had to house a solder in a war.They had to provide food clothes and a room. Once again colonists complained to Parlement that they were violating their rights. So it got taken away.

    Pontiac's War

    This was a fight between the British and the Indians. Nearly half a dozen of the British forts were destroyed and over 2000 deaths on the British and Indian side. Pontiac did this so the British would not take all of his land.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Britain wanted to avoid other wars happening. It banned settlements west of the line drawn on the Appalachian Mountains settlers were told to move east of that line. This was hated by the colonists so some did not listen and move west of that line.
  • The Sugar Act

    This was Britain effort to try and enforce laws on things that included sugar in them and sugar itself. By doing this though a lot of settlers started to smuggle goods that included sugar like molasses. They also protested and boycotted. After all of this it eventually got stopped.
  • The Stamp Act

    The most unpopular tax act was the Stamp Act because you had to buy stamps for things like: newspapers,wills,licenses,insurance,land titles,contracts,plays cards ect and you had buy stamps for all of these and the stamps cost money. Patrick Henry made a emotional speech and ended his speech with reference to Julius Caesars death. New York made a petition for Stamp act and they also made a boycott. Britten also tried to tax things before they got to the colony's. This did not work.
  • The Second Continental Congress

    As the crisis with Britain deepened the second continental congress came together in Philadelphia. The delegates included Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and Benjamin Franklin. The first thing that they had to do was to make an army to represent the country. The congress choose George Washington to command the army. The congress needed money to pay for the solders so they invented and started to print paper money.
  • The Boston Massacre

    In Bosten workers and sailers surrounded a group of solders and started to throw snowballs and shout at them then out of nowhere a shot went of and all the soldiers shot and they killed 5 people the first being Crispus Attucks a African American sailor. John Adams a well known lawyer defended the solders in court but he did not even like the solders the only reason he did this is because he beloved that every man in a free country deserves a lawyer and a fair court trial this still applys today.
  • The Tea Act

    This act was intended to help British East India Company, One of Britain's most important company's.When the colonists boycotted on the tea it hurt the tea industry a lot.But the tea act actually lowered the price of the tea though so why were the colonists mad you ask.They were mad because one there was still tax and the East India company had a monopoly on the tea which means they are the only ones in the colonies that can sell tea which means a lot of people lost their jobs.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    A group of people called the Sons Of Liberty organized in port citys to stop the East India company from being unloading.They stopped the ships from unloading in New York, Philadelphia and others.However in Boston it was trying to be unloaded.Four weeks went bye feelings were tense in Boston.But one night a group of people disguised as Native Americans bored the ship and in 3 hours they threw of 342 case of tea which is 90000 pounds of tea and over 1 million dollars worth of tea in the harbor.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Boston Tea Party angered the British government. Parliament passed four laws. The first act was they closed the port of Boston. They abolished the upper house of the legislature of mass. this increased the power of the royal guvnor. The third was they cut the powers of town meetings. The last was they strengthened the 1765 quartering act. Parliament also passed the Quebec act this blocked colonists from moving west.
  • The First Continental Congress

    This took place in Philadelphia. 12 of the 13 colonies sent delegates. some of the delegates there were John Adams, Samuel Adams, John Jay, George Washington, and Patrick Henry. They demanded to repeal the intolerable acts. It also called for the training of militias to stand up to British troops. They also called for a boycott on British goods. They then voted to meet again in may 1775 if demands were not met.
  • The Battles Of Lexington and Concord

    In April General Thomas Gage learned that the minutemen were storing arms in concord about 20 miles from Boston. In Lexington 77 troops were ready to face British troops. Nobody knows who took the shot but someone did and the the battle started. When they got near concord another battle took place about 400 minutemen took out about 1/3 of the British troops the British retreated and they had to walk back another 20 miles.
  • The Battle For Fort Ticonderoga

    A daring band of colonists made a surprise attack on fort Ticonderoga. This was a very important fort because it protected the waterway to Canada. The colonists that attacked the fort were from mostly the green mountains in Vermont because of that they were known as the green mountain boys. Wen they attacked the British surrendered almost immediately. This was one of the most important victory's because they got a couple dozen cannons wich in the end helped them win the war.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Two resolutions passed in July showed the uncertainty of the congress.The first resolution was the Olive Branch Petition and was sent to King George.The petition stated that the colonists were loyal to the king.It asked King George to stop the fighting so all disputes in the colonies and Britain could be solved with peace.The petition got its name because the olive branch has been a sign of peace since ol times.But when the king got it all he did was throw it away he did not even look at it.
  • The Battles Of Bunker And Breeds Hill

    The British decided to attack Breeds Hill. The american commander Israel Putnam knew his solders had little ammo so he said do not shoot till you see the whites of their eyes. When the British first went up the hill the first row of men got shot and died.Then they went up a second time and the second row all got shotThe last row of troops they had they still went up again and the Americans ran out of ammo.So the British won but they lost about 1000 troops when american only lost about 400 troops
  • Invasion Of Quebec

    While Washington was training one army in Boston 2 army's were headed to Canada. They left fort Ticonderoga and went to Quebec. They battled Quebec and during that one of the commanders died and the other got hurt. On the way to Quebec the had to eat tree bark shoe leather and candles. The americans ended up losing the battle.
  • The British Withdrawal From Boston

    At the end of the battle of Bunker hill the British decided to leave Boston and never come back. This was good because it gave time to the people who were carrying the cannons over to Boston. It also gave time for people to get prepped and ready for a war.
