Events leading to the revalutionary war

  • The Albany Congress

    When the British government thought war would begin soon they called together all of the colony leaders the meeting took place in Albany The British wanted the colonies to to defend themselves against the French and make an alliance with the Iroquois but the Iroquois refused thinking the French would win the war The colonial leaders tried to work out a plan to defend themselves Ben Franklin had an idea to have the colonies join together and defeat the French but the Leaders did not like it

    French and Indian war

    A war between the French and British about who controlled the land between Lake Erie and the Ohio River. The French built forts to claim there land. the Virginia Colony sent soldiers to with George Washington leading them French to leave but the french diden't leave the French sent Washington back to tell Virgina. A year later Washington went back to build a fort but he was to late the French already had a fort. The French captured Washington and his crew and he was relesed to go back.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    After the French lost Quebec they could no longer defend thier North American terrtory they surrendered and gave French Canada and all the land west of the Mississippi but not New Orleans the British also received Spanish Florida then all the land west of the Mississippi went to the Spanish with the French gone the native Americans could not keep British settlers out

    Ponticas War

    A War between the Native Americans where the leader of the Ottawa nation Pontica formed an alliance with the Western Native Americans and they went and attacked British forts and settlements half a dozen British forts were destroyed and more than 2000 back country settelers were killed British settlers did the same thing and killed Native Americans who weren't fightning. The British finaly beat ponticas army and the war was over
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Britain didn't want to have any more wars with the Native Americans so they put out the proclamation of 1763 whwich banned colinal settlements west of the line drawn along the Appalachian mountians this angered many colonists and they ignored it wich made it hard for the British to enforce
  • Suger Act

    This was a tax set on Suger products including molasses this angered the settlers and they protested it also was for people who smuggled would get harsh punishmet
  • The Stamp Act

    This required the coloniest to buy special tax stamps for all paper products when this came out the coloniest protested Merchants in New York Boston and Philadelphia organized boycotts on British goods the boycotts spread to all the colonies in October delegantes from nine colonists in New York for the Samp act congress they sent a petition addressed to the king and Parliment this petition demanded the end of both the Sugar act and the Stamp act the protests worked and the Stamp act was removed
  • The quartering act

    The purpose of this was to save moneyto enforce the proclamation of 1763 Britain kept 10000 soldiers in the colonies the quartering act made the coloniest house the soldiers and provide them with food and other supplies the looniest were angry and they protested
  • The Boston Massacre

    Parliment repelled all townshed duties but they did not act fast enough on March 5 1770 an angry crowd of workers and sailors surrounded a small group of soldiers they shouted at the soldiers and were throwing snowballs and rocks the soldiers were frightened and fired into the crowd killing five hurting six Governor Thomas arresting the soldiers and tried for murder John Adams was defending the soldiers two soldiers were found guilty and had thier thumbs branded
  • Tea Act

    The Tea act was intended to help the East India Company one of Britain's most important company. the colonies boycotts hurt the company the Tea Act actually lowered the prices on tea the part that made the colonists mad was the act gave the company a monopoly wich put colonial merchants that sold Dutch tea that was mostley smuggled into the colonies the colonial leaders argued even though the price of tea was lowered there was still tax on the tea
  • The Boston Tea Party

    A group of colonists called the sons of liberty organized in port cites to stop East India Company's tea from bieng unloaded they threatened ship captains who were unloading the tea and merchants who said they would buy it but in Boston Governor on the night of December 16 1773 a large crowd gathered around the harbor a large group of men disguised as Native Americans boarded the tea ship and they threw 342 cases of tea into the harbor the group destroyed 90000 pounds of tea.
  • Intolaerble acts

    The Boston tea party made King George the third mad so Parliament passed four laws in response to the act the first law to the Boston ports were closed two more increased the power of the royal governor demolishing the upper house of the Massachusetts and cutting the power to town meetings the last one made the Quartering act stronger
  • The First Continental Congress

    This took place in Philadelphia twelve of the thirteen colonies sent delegates only Georgia did not send a representatives among the delegates were John Adams and Samuel Adams from Massachusetts John Jay from New York and George Washington and Patrick Henry from Virginia the congress wanted the end of the Intolerable acts and said the colonies could tax themselves it also called for milatias in every colony and another boycott on British goods
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The British government did not care about the First contiantel congress General Thomas Gage found out the minute men were storing guns in Concord so he sent seven hundred troops to sieze the guns and capture important coloniel leaders when the troops set out the patriots set of a signal two men Paul Revere and William Dawes then they went to warn the minutemen in the town of Lexington 77 minute men were waiting for the British in Concord 400 men were fightning the British the British retreatded
