    On May 4, a highly venomous and invasive hornet species, dubbed “Murder Hornets,” have been spotted in the US. The hornets originated in Asia, but have now been spotted in Washington state. They have been killing the already dying bee population in the state. The hornets are longer than two inches, and if stung multiple times, a human can die from the sting.     On June 28, a wildfire was sparked in Utah after a resident set off fireworks. Strong gusts of wind have caused the fire to spread another 100-200 acres. This NFL team’s name has been in the news before, but the NFL announced it will now be looking into a new name for the team. It is not official that the name will be changed. During his speech on July 3, President Trump proposed a minimum ten year sentence for people seen tearing down statues. During the speech, President Trump also denounced “cancel culture”. (CNN)

    On August 12, scientists in the Isle of Wight announced a new species related to the T-rex. Paleontologists at the University of Southampton believe the dinosaur lived 115 million years ago and was about 13 feet long.

    This week, the US has seen some interesting weather. On September 6, the wildfires in California set a new record, scorching 2,094,955 acres, which is the most acres burned in one year. Experts believe this number will only grow as wildfire season is typically October and November. The wildfires were only exacerbated after a heat wave hit the state.

While the threat was investigated, classes and events on campus were cancelled and students were urged to stay inside. On October 10, protests in Wisconsin entered their third night after it was announced that the officer who shot Alvin Cole in February will not face charges.
