Events that occurred leading up to Federation

  • 24 Oct 1889

    Henry Parks wanted make Australia a Nation. Sir Henry parks made a speech about the other colonies coming together. The premiers agreed and had a Federation conference to be held in 1890.
  • 6-14 Feb 1890

    6-14 Feb 1890 the government had a meeting in Malborne about joining the colonies together to become Australia. They all agreed to Australia being a nation.
  • Federal Parliament

    King George the 5th opened the first federal parliament in Melbourne. The federal parliament met in the federal parliament until 1927.
  • 1892

    1892 In 1892 all the banks closed and all the colonies were scared ,immigration was halted. The parliaments were struggling dealing with this. All except WA.
  • Nov 1892

    Nov 1894 The Federation leagues had a International conference held at the Melbourne Town Hall. William Knox the president Malvern Council in Victoria guided the conference.
  • 1893 July 3rd

    1893 July 3rd Edmond Barton visited the Riverine in NSW, after he visited 15 federation leagues formed in the community of Riverine.
  • 1896

    1896 The premieres had a special conference and agreed to hold a new federation convention.
  • 1897 25th of March

    1897 25 of March The Federal Association formed from the Australia Federation league. The National Australia Convention met in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne and agreed to the constitution.
  • 24-27 Jan 1899

    24-27 Jan 1899 It was the last session of the Federal Council. The Premiers held a secrete meeting and agreed with lots of changes
  • 9 May 1901

    9 May 1901 King George V opened the first federal parliament in Melbourne. The federal parliament met in the Melbourne parliament. There were 8 departments that were made in Melbourne.
