Evolution of the Media

    Printing Press

    This new technology which emerged in the 15th century allowed the mass production of printed documents, but at the time only 5% of the population were literate.
  • Journals

    Journals began being published and shared between scientists and between engineers. Sharing this information allowed the advancement of technology to speed up.
  • Magazines

    Due to the revolutionary technology, it allowed the monthly publishing of documents, some of which were general interest proving, that more people could now read.
  • Television

    The TV was state funded via licence payers. It's a very powerful form of media, there are approximately 24 million TVs in the UK today.
  • Internet

    ARPANET adopted TCP/IP on January 1, 1983, and from there researchers began to assemble the “network of networks” that became the modern Internet. The online world then took on a more recognisable form in 1990, when computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web.
  • Mobile Phones

    The first mobile phone cost £2000, weighed 1kg and the battery perimtted half an hour of talktime. Mainly used for business related reasons
