  • Magnavox Odyssey

    Magnavox Odyssey
    Initially known as the "Brown Box," Ralph Baer presented the video game console to the Magnavox corporation, who began development of the Magnavox Odyssey. Although it was a commercial failure, only selling 350,000 units and hurt by rumors such as only running on Magnavox TVs and being undermined by consumers, the console set the stage for the future video game industry. The console was discontinued in 1975.

    Pong
    Founded in 1972, Atari and its founder Nolan Bushnell released Pong, a home version of the arcade game, under the Sears Tele-Games label. The console become a smash hit, having a single chip for the score system and a sound when the ball hit the opposing paddles. This wide success gave Atari a household name and status of selling at-home game consoles.
