    Open Door Policy
    The Open Door Policy granted equal trading rights to all foreign nations in China and opened Asian markets to U.S business. Because of this the United States begins to trade more with other countries and build relationships with them, encouraging Foriegn Policy.
  • Acquisition of Hawaii, Guam and The Philipines

    Acquisition of Hawaii, Guam and The Philipines
    The United States overthrew Hawaii's Queen and annexed it as a territory. The U.S also took Guam from Spain during the Spanish- American War as well as The Philipines. This expanded U.S territory and now the U.S has more products like sugar and Pineapple to trade with other nations.
  • Sinking of the U.S.S Maine

    Sinking of the U.S.S Maine
    The U.S sent a battleship called the U.S.S Maine to Cuba to protect its economic nterests there and in1898 the battle ship exploded and killed 260 men. The U.S blamed the Spanish and went to war. The United States won the war and gained new territories and kept its economic interest in Cuba which was sugar cane. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine was one of the causes for the war which allowed us to do these things.

    The Spanish American War was a conflict between the United States and Spain over Cuban independence. The war began becasue of the sinking of the U.S.S Maine. The United States invaded the southeast end of the island and defeated the Spanish at San Juan Hill. They also sank seven spanish ships and therefore won the war and gained The Philipines, Puerto Rico and Guam as a result. This allowed us to trade more products found in these places with other countries and expand our influence.

    The Roosevelt Corollary was a statement by Theodore Roosevelt which was an addition to the Monroe Docrine that said that any European effort to colonize or interefere in North or South America would be viewed as aggresion.
  • Dollar Diplomacy

    Dollar diplomacy encouraged U.S banks to invest or give loans to carribbean countries. This was started by President Taft and was designed to encourage U.S. investments in South and Central American, the Caribbean countries to promote the sale of American products overseas.

    Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assasinated by Gavrilo Princip of Serbia and caused war to breakout because of European alliances .

    World War one began becasue of the assasination of Franz Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip of Serbia. War breaks out and alliances join in to help. Eventually the alliances cause a world war break out because all the allies join in to hwlp the countries at war.

    The United States built the Panama Canal through Panama, it joins the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and serves as a major route for international trade. This impacted foreign policy because now there was a shortcut between the east and west coast which means that it would take ships less time to travel and more trade international would be easier.

    Becasue the U.S gave alot of weapons to Britan and France to help with the war, Germany declared the waters around the British Isles as a war zone and used U-boats to sink any ship that entered the area. This proclamtion prevented the U.S from trading with Great Britan because of the risk of being torpedoed.

    The Lusitania was a passenger ship that was torpedoed and sunk by the Germans and killed more than 120 Americans. This pushed the United States to join WWI which affected all relationships with other nations.

    The Germans promised not to sink any more ships without warning because they did not want the U.S to enter the war becasue they knew they would lose however, the Germans continued to attack U.S ships forcing us to enter the war.

    This was a telegram sent by the Germans to Mexico asking them to attack the United States in exchange for the teritory that they lost during the Mexican American War to weaken the United States forces. This is what caused the United States to enter the WWI.

    The U.S was pushed by Germany into entering World War after the sinking of the Lusitania and The Zimmerman Telegram. This affected all relations with other nations. The United States became allies with Russia, Italy, Great Britan and France and helped them by trading with them and sending troops to help out .

    The was an Act passed by the government which allowed them to be able to draft soldiers. all men of the age of 21 to 31 were required to register for military service.
  • Espionage Act

    Espionage Act
    This act made it a crime for a person to tell information that was intended to interefere with the U.S armed forces persecution of the war effort or to promote success of the countrys enemis. This basically prevented there from being spies to give information to enemies.

    This was president Woodrow Wilson's plan for peace to prevent another World War from occuring.
  • Battle of Argone

    Battle of Argone
    This battle was held at the Argonne Forest along the Muse River on the Western Front and was led by the American Expeditionary Forces. This battle led to an armistince, which means the end of the War.
  • End of WWI

    End of WWI
    Germany surrendered and all nations had agreed to stop fighting. On June 28, 1919 The Allied Powers signed The Treaty of Versailles which officially ended the war. In this treaty Germany was to accpet total blame for the war, pay $300 billion in reparations, downsize their military, eliminate their navy, and colonies were taken from them and given to the allies.
