    The Mayflower Compact was a document where they agreed to obey laws created for the general good. It created a convenant community, which is a community based on the promises found in the compact.

    England gained land from France. They gained the land west of the Appalachians and they gained land in Canada.

    This book was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It talked about how evil slavery was. This book was widely read and it increased support in the North for abolition.
  • Dred Scott Case

    Dred Scott Case
    Dred Scott was a slave whoi sued for freedom after being taken into free territory by owner. In this case, court ruled that African Americans aren't citizens so he didn't have a right to sue, and Congress had night to ban slavery. This case overturned efforts to limit spread of slavery.

    Abraham Lincoln, a republican, won the election. Slavery had been the main issue.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The first battle of the war was at Fort Sumter, which was in South Carolina, although it remain under Union control. Southerners fired on these Union ships that were there to resupply Ft. Sumter.
